January 25th is nearly upon us once more, and the world resounds to the tones of Burns’s poems. The Scottish Poetry Library and Let’s Get Lyrical have come up with a typically fun and inventive way of celebrating our most celebrated of Scots poets: a flashmob outside St Giles cathedral tomorrow at 1 pm. Work permitting, I’ll be mobbing and singing. But even if I don’t make it, my dulcet tones have already been lent to celebrating Rabbie this year, as you can hear on the wee animation below. It was commissioned from whitespace, who asked me to write the script and do the voiceover, for the Burns pages on the Scottish Government’s Scotland portal thingy. Hopefully, it’s not too obvious that I’m both Narrator and The Voice of Rabbie, but judge for yourself:
