A quick post to remind anyone withing striking distance of Newcastle that I’m reading from The North End of the Possible at the Lit & Phil on Monday evening. The event is free — which leaves you free to spend your pennies on a sparkling, hot-of-the-press copy of the book — and starts at 7:00pm.

Poet and fiction writer Emma Lee tagged me in this internet meme. I’m answering about The North End of the Possible, as it is certainly the next big thing in my writing life! Where did the idea come from for the book? As I think is common with many poetry collections, the idea grew out

I love the way that visual artists see light. My good friend, the photographer, filmmaker and — although he frequently denies it — poet Alastair Cook has a beautiful photography exhibition, Analogue Decay, at the Howden Park Centre in Livingston. Unfortunately, it finishes today but, if you possibly can, I recommend you get along and

Michelle McGrane has been generous enough to offer to post a couple of poems from The Ambulance Box on her blog Peony Moon. You can now read “The Invention of Zero” and “Lullaby” on there, along with blurby bits and a short bio. Many thanks, Michelle! It’s turned into quite an encouraging week on the

Having just worked out how to embed content from Vimeo, I thought I’d post properly Alastair Cook‘s beautiful video for Jane McKie’s “La Plage“:

I mentioned this collection in the previous post. Here‘s* a video from the project by Alastair Cook for Jane McKie‘s poem “La Plage”. (Lovely poem. I particularly like “They will rubbish quieter worship”.) *Can’t get it to embed, unfortunately.
