Rob For President

Rob A Mackenzie has been nominated for poet laureate of the blogosphere! Thing is, he says he doesn’t want it, which is tough, ’cause I’ve never heard of the other nominees. I don’t know much about what the accolade entails, either. First I heard of it was when Ron Silliman said his stint was now over, so at least one predecessor is hardly an insignificant name, which makes it all the more something to celebrate that Rob has been nominated.

  1. Heh heh.

Andy, I think anyone can be nominated. All it takes is for one blogger to nominate another, and that’s it done.

Winning is another matter, as you need plenty of votes. I don’t think any duties go with the post. It’s just a bit of fun. Not something you’d include on a literary CV either, even if you did win – can you imagine writing that you were Poet Laureate of the Blogosphere?

In any case, I not going to win, so I don’t need to worry about that! Last time I looked I was third or fourth, and slipping…

  2. I’m being quite tongue-in-cheek about this, in case anyone misunderstands.

Billy the Blogging Poet, who organises the event annually, seems like a good guy, and the sites of the other nominees that I’ve visted so far have all been pretty good.

Ah yes, but a bit of fun that surely boosts your (international) profile considerably.

  4. I don’t know. I’m not convinced it would make much difference, although I could be wrong.

I keep thinking of giving up blogging, but so far I’ve managed to keep it going. But the time will come…
